Mazzariello spent more than a decade at the Rensselaer County Department of Social Services in case management, child protective services, and benefits eligibility work, then directed the county’s workforce development program. No public record documents experience in facilities management, fleet operations, construction oversight, real estate, or municipal finance. Carmella appointed him Commissioner of General Services in January 2024. He is the only staff member in the Office of General Services.
He participated in the city’s working group on the Proctor’s Theatre city hall relocation. On June 17, 2026, Carmella and Deputy Mayor Donnelly jointly appointed him to the LDC board — the entity administering the $12.5 million bond deal for the same project. He had a role in planning it and now sits on the board governing it.
On April 9, 2026, Mazzariello served on the RFP scoring committee that selected the operator for the Frear Park restaurant concession. The other committee members were Deputy Mayor Donnelly and two city park staff. Two applications were scored.
